Lazy Unnie’s Playlist: SEVENTEEN – Heng:garae

TITLE: Heng:garae

ARTIST: SEVENTEEN

LABEL: PLEDIS ENTERTAINMENT

RELEASED: June 22, 2020

This summer is filled with releases left and right… but Seventeen are fearless when it comes to releasing things in a jam packed month. All I wish is that they didn’t make so hard to pick favorite tracks. My My… let me get it together and review this bitch. (Couldn’t find a way to fit in Kidult)

Left & Right – Title Track

Rating: 4 out of 5.

YAS! The underlining beat reminds me of the Cupid Shuffle but in a good way. I immediately want to dance. It was really nice listening to Wonwoo’s singing voice. I was really feeling Vernon’s verse surprisingly. It’s definitely an ear worm that’s fun and playful without being sugary. I would compare it to eating a slushy on a hot day. I need that Hana Dul Set Net as my new alarm so I can wake up to Wonwoo. The MV… funny, cute and again playful. I was dying by the end of it with S.Coups and his car.

Fearless

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I love how hard and rough this feels for SEVENTEEN. Not in the same way Closer was. A more Imagine Dragons vibe. But the sweet pre-chorus gives the song a nice transition. Then the return of whispering Jeonghan from HIT!! Here for it!!

I Wish

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is so smooth and easy listening. I actually wouldn’t have expected it from SVT. On first listen, I was really down with this. After a few listens, it kind of down grades. I still like its retro aspect but it really sounds like it should be the theme song to a 1975 sitcom. I just want to keep saying “I’m Robert Leech and this is the lifestyles of the rich and famous!”

My My

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I usually don’t like tropicpop songs but I really like this one. As a pre-release track, I was expecting the whole EP to kind of be in this sound and I was a little disappointed because I feel like they did something similar last summer. But the more I listen the more I find I like about this one. It’s groovy and the raps are very trendy. But its Seungkwan and Seokmin’s adlibs that make me swoon.

Kidult

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I truly love the title of this song cause I too am a kid adult but by the time the pre-chorus starts and I realize that this is going to be a power ballad, my heart soars in crescendo. The song felt like it was going in one direction and wouldn’t have any levels but vocal team laid their funk on it and owned the hell out of it. The rock pop feel has me reaching to the sky and swaying along by the bridge. And the falsettos give me goosebumps! I absolutely love.

Together

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I feel like I’m listening to the fluffiest OST when I listen to this. And I’m surprisingly not entirely hating it. Some of the pre-chorus reminds me of early SVT. But the chorus is my favorite part of the song. It feels the strongest. It’s not a song I would listen to all the time but not a skip every time.

BONUS: Snap Shoot

Rating: 5 out of 5.

No real reason why I’m posting this other than LOOK HOW CUTE THIS IS! A whole MV done by Mingyu while they were on tour. I loved watching them in the different cities. And my heart swelled when Dino danced in Times Square. My New Yorker was proud. Plus, the song is a straight bop.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Just when I didn’t think SEVENTEEN could give me another no skip, they do, well almost. It’s really perfect for the season without being overly bubbly. It’s a little bit of everything you could ask for without sounding disjointed. They aren’t all home runs but some round the bases really nicely. Vocal team really shine and I’m also really happy that S.Coups is back and they’re back to a full 13. Now I just have to wait for my 5 albums to get to me.

PRODUCTION : 4 / 5
VOCALS / RAPPING : 4.5 / 5
VISUALS / CONCEPT : 4 / 5
OVERALL : 4.5 / 5
