TITLE: HELLO Chapter 3: Hello, Strange Time
ARTIST: CIX
LABEL: C9 Entertainment
RELEASED: October 27, 2020
Us FIX’s have waited 4 months for Bae Jinyoung to heal from his ankle injury for this EP. It was all ready to go and CIX said if one down, we all down. Now let me see if this was worth the agonizing wait.
Jungle – Title Track
This is a song we have waiting MONTHS for. And I’m in love with it. Its haunting beginning keeps with the whole song but it has levels if that makes sense. The song could easily be one note but Hyunsuk, Seunghun and Yonghee are killing it vocally. I just love this and there is not much I can say about it. THE MV THO! They came to attack me.
Move My Body
When I hear the title, I’m expecting it to make me want to dance. CIX achieved that. This dance track with a more hip-hop verse is the kind of song that makes you want to ride the beat. I’m not a fan of the drop in the chorus but the rap verses make up for it. Decent song.
Change Me
The beginning of this song with the electric organ puts me in one headspace but the beat quickly turns into a fast paced club dance track, and I’m here for it. The vocals fall a little flat for me but the addicting hook of “Change meeee” catchy as hell. I feel like it took a while for the rap to come in but when it did, it elevated the song to a nicer place. Thank you BX.
Switch It Up
This is exactly what the title suggests. They switched it up with this Caribbean feel song. Even though tropical and everyone and their mama does a tropical song, this feels different. I’m in love with the chorus and the song is just a whole vibe.
Rebel
I’m not sure how I feel about Rebel. I don’t hate it but it feels the most different from the other songs. Yes, it’s a dance song. But it just haves a different vibe from the other tracks. It feels in the same wheelhouse of a Top 40 song. Very Gaga.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The more I listen to this mini, it makes me realize that CIX is one of the better groups to come out during Gen 4. They just seem like a group I can count on to deliver a solid release. These songs didn’t wow me the say way Chapter 2 did, however, it felt like the break that the group took while Jinyoung healed, was what the group needed to come back and kill it. C9 definitely does the boys favors by giving them the right producers to work with and each have the talent to take on the task.
