Oh My Girl – Dear OhMyGirl

Title: Dear OHMYGIRL Artist: Oh My Girl Label: WM Entertainment Release: May 10, 2021
Because the last time I did Hit or Skip, I gave men rights, I needed to go back to my feminism roots. Therefore, why not bless y’all with a review of Oh My Girl’s new mini album? Say it with me…. You’re welcome.
Title Track – Dun Dun Dance
I started off being so-so about the song itself, but sure enough within a day or two it has grown on me so much. I like this way more than Nonstop. Idc. I love how infectious this is and that it borrows disco and trap influence. At first I wasn’t too fond of the slowed down trap rap, but overall the song is way stronger than that weak point. The chorus is just giving us SUMMER AND OUTSIDE. WE LOVE IT. Plus the girls look positively gorgeous. I love the MV a lot.
B-Sides
Dear you
Very typical pop sound, but it fits very well. Their voices sound so complimentary here. Very sweet and comforting. However, nothing really stands out and it borders on average.
My doll
Who is surprised that this would be my favorite song on the album? Absolutely no one. Oh My Girl shines when they incorporate dream pop elements in their sound. Similar to Closer, I just feel an enchantment when listening to this song. The vocals are arranged beautifully and the use of the modulator accentuates the feeling.
Quest
Although this is a trap song, it is still uniquely Oh My Girl’s. However, this is probably my least favorite track on the album. I just don’t think it is a particularly convincing sound. I will say though, Mimi definitely ate her rap up.
Who comes who knows
In contrast to Quest, this is the better song over a trap beat. I love the inclusion of the latin style to this. Including the ad libs and layering of the song. It has a bolder sound and is more convincing. Definitely feeding off the summer energy for the mini.
Swan
This is another one that is a vibe. We love the kind of rock-esque pre chorus and the pop beat drop chorus. It is a nice ending to the mini and gives a vibe of hope.
Final Thoughts
I definitely think that this mini is satisfying in so many ways. The concept is great and only time will really tell if any of these make it onto my top OMG songs, but I definitely enjoyed this mini a million times better than I did Nonstops. I love the way that they stay true to the sounds that they love while also embracing the trends.
