After watching Semantic Error, Light on Me, and To My Star, my hope for Korean BL dramas was high. This is good… but just doesn’t hit the same. I’m not sure if the plot was lacking or the chemistry. It was an easy watch, I finished it in a day but more so I was rushing to get to the kissing scenes I saw on tumblr.
Speaking of, I was actually happy to see characters show some physical attraction to one another. At least once Cha Si Won gets over his shit. The biggest hindrance in this show was the plot holes and the lack of emotion from the actors. It wasn’t clear why Siwon didn’t like Daun. It was a weird jealous moment that stemmed from Siwon having a lot of insecurities from being a kid of divorce and fat? I was left confused about that. But also on the flip side, I didn’t understand why Daun wanted to be with Siwon and his moody ass.
The more I think about it, the more I realize they tried to make this some over-the-top melodrama of a BL which I don’t think the material could handle. There wasn’t enough to make this a sad story about two guys falling in like with each other. The show was beautifully shot and I found myself getting lost in the cinematography of it all but other than that I found the characters a little flat. I laughed a lot at Siwon because honestly, he was ridiculous in his narcissism, and Daun was just a sad rich boy.
I would like to see both of them in something else because I honestly think their potential was wasted on a poor script and bad direction. At least we have some nice skinship moments to make up for where the show lacked otherwise.
