At the age of eight, Park Joo Hyeong went to Italy after being adopted. Now an adult, he is known as Vincenzo Cassano to the Mafia, who employ him as a consigliere. When we did the first impression of this show back in February, I was bored. Those first two episodes really dragged and basically showed what the synopsis told us. Vincenzo is an adoptee from Italy and is a lawyer for the Italian Mafia. What that all entails… we find out in the very long and plot twisted season. Once I got over the hurdle that is the first 3 episodes, I became addicted just like everyone else. It’s hard to pinpoint one thing that made this show work.

The plot was CRAZY. But in the “I can’t believe this is working way”. There were times I was reminded of The Last Empress while watching, but even though Vincenzo had some absurd moments, it wasn’t too off from being in the realm of reality. There were aspects that I just didn’t understand, like a lot of the business dealings that went on with Babel but half way through the show, I realized I didn’t care about that. All I cared about was seeing how Vincenzo was going to counter attack all the big bads.

Speaking of… the villains’ in this range from being complex to just down right evil with no real explanation. Everyone went crazy over the reveal of Taecyeon and I think that if I wasn’t already spoiled, I would be too but I do admit it was a well done twist. But for me, the true villain was Choi Myung Hee, prosecutor turned true evil bitch. I found myself continuingly asking, why is she doing all this? What is the motive here? I just resolved that there were more than one psychopath in this show.

As for my second favorite part of the show, the cast. I loved all the heavy hitters from the main two of Vincenzo and Hong Cha Young, to all the residents of Geumga Plaza. The chemistry they all had with each other was clear as day. They provided not only comic relief but heart to a show that had a lot of scheming and murdering. And not just on Geumga Plaza side was there heart, Jang Han Seo’s whole storyline tugged at my heart strings from the beginning because even though he was on Babel’s side, there was something that Kwak Dong Yeon portrayed that made you realize that not all is what it seems. I really enjoyed everyone in the show weather they were evil or not. Song Joong Ki really had me believing he was an Italian adoptee and Jeon Yeo Bin kept me laughing with Hong Cha Yong’s antics. I loved how regardless of how sexy Vincenzo was… they never let romance get in the way of getting shit done.

Speaking of getting shit done… THE GOLD! I was stressed until the end what was going to happen with the gold. How they were going to get it out. But the twists and turns that happened with that felt very smart. The whole show had many hats. It had a heist plot, organized crime, a little romance, a bunch of sentimental moments, a law show… a shit ton of violence. At the end, this show was just jammed pack with stuff, it made sense why all the episodes were forever and a year, even though it drove me crazy with how long it actually was.

All I got to say… if you take nothing away from this show, either it being the twisted plot, beautiful cinematography, perfectly placed soundtrack or the wardrobe to die for. Just know that the Vincenzo at the end of episode 16 is my favorite Vincenzo and you just have to watch to see why.
