Lazy Unnie’s Couch: KinnPorsche

The second son of a Mafia boss, Kinn Theerapanyakul, is fleeing from an enemy when he meets Porsche, an enterprising young bartender. Porsche agrees to help defend Kinn from his attackers for a price. Porsche’s martial arts skills impress, and spurred on by his father, Kinn seeks to hire Porsche as one of his personal bodyguards. Porsche is opposed and rejects Kinn’s offer despite his attempts at intimidation. It isn’t until Porsche’s family home and his ability to care for his brother are threatened that he acquiesces and moves onto the Theerapanyakul property. It’s not a smooth transition into the unorthodox, violent job, and his relationship with Kinn vacillates between strained and playful. When his feelings for Kinn take an unexpected turn, his work becomes even more high-stakes.

Talk about a BL to ruin BLs. Before this even aired, I heard about this coming out and when I saw the trailer, I was hooked. What drew me in was the gratuitous sex that was promised and boy, was it delivered. But on top of all the sexy times with the sexy men in the cast, there was a decent plot. The story at the base is kind of like beauty and the beast if the beauty is some roughneck bartender who does underground fighting and the beast is the middle son and heir to some mafia dynasty. Yeah, sounds crazy to me too. And as each week came and went, it got crazier and sexier and by the end, you didn’t know where to look for answers.

However, if you are looking for a story that makes sense or for something deep, this ain’t it. What actually makes KinnPorsche a must-watch is the chemistry between the actors. They all worked really hard to bring these characters from a very problematic source material and make them some of the most endearing characters on your screen. That partnered with some really nice cinematography and soundtracks, it made the show pleasurable. The ships sailed hard with this show. There was a ship for everyone basically. You had your mains of Kinn and Porsche but then there was the biggest side ship of VegasPete. Personally, I wasn’t a big KimChay shipper because the age difference between the actors is a bit big but they had their own little innocent chemistry that was adorable to watch. The whole cast was just irresistible.

But things weren’t all sunshine and rainbows. The plot I said before wasn’t perfect and that is because there were a lot of problematic scenes that happened. The amount of abuse the show had was insane. The level of dubious consent, especially with Kinn and Porsche’s first time together. That was something that had people up in arms. Was it a bit uncomfortable? Yes. But at the same time, I went in knowing this wasn’t going to be all sunshine and rainbows. With the cinematography, it really made any sus thing more beautiful and you almost forgot that these are dangerous men who are basically jerking it in a club bathroom, or this is kinda incesty.

This show is that kind of good soap opera crack that is sexy, crazy, and by the end, you wonder why you’re still watching but the cute boys who can’t seem to keep their hands off each other are distracting you from the plot holes. Throw in some comedy and slight BDSM, that is KinnPorshe in a nutshell. Would I watch again? Probably not but I will be revisiting my favorite parts before season two comes about.
