Been a while since I’ve done a review and I just couldn’t get off the ride that TXT has provided! Read on to see what I thought of everything else.
Sugar Rush Ride – Title Track
Lord knows I love me a funky guitar riff and this opens with it. I was in love with the first cords! It’s a dancey pop track that feels like an elevated sound of their earlier tracks. It is like they’ve taken what they’ve done and thought about how they could flip it on its head. I don’t think the MV really goes with the song but both have this whimsical vibe that just works with TXT’s whole aesthetic
Devil by the Window
I really feel like TXT needs to be in the discussion when talking about good-ass all-English k-pop tracks. This is really a fun and kinda Billie Eilish vibe. Puts me in a like dangerous mood.
Happy Fools (Feat. Coi Leray)
Look at TXT getting those features. I think this is a good song. It isn’t crazy but it really is showing how the group is playing with genre. Having a more samba R&B vibe that makes you feel like you’re on the beach somewhere lounging.
Tinnitus (Wanna be a rock)
Is it the best song on the EP? I THINK YES! Who knew that TXT would benefit so well from mixing with Afrobeats? Their tones and beat are harmonious, making me want a whole album of these kinds of songs. I also wanna see the boys dancing to this.
Farewell, Neverland
TXT ends their expedition of various influences with a Latin-inspired ballad. Even without the typical 4th gen noise, it feels relevant and unique to TXT.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The thing about TXT is I can now count on them to experiment and not fuck up. There is just something about this EP that feels different than the others but not too far removed. I believe it is TXT’s ability to be chameleons and fully absorb themselves into whatever concept they are trying. Even though this is just an EP, it makes me wonder what a full album of these kinds of songs would sound like. Who would they collab with next? Want to talk about acts that can crossover into today’s pop world? That’s TXT.
