Lazy Unnie’s Playlist: EVERGLOW – reminiscence

TITLE: reminiscence

ARTIST: EVERGLOW

LABEL: Yuehua Entertainment

RELEASED: February 3, 2020

One of my favorite groups of 2019 is back with a new mini for 2020! Let’s see if they’re keeping the momentum going with this new mini.

SALUTE

Rating: 2 out of 5.

As a first track, it’s very call to arms. Bouncy and catchy but not enough to mask as a title track. But when the chorus comes in, it’s very bubbly which feels off brand for Everglow who have really carved themselves in this badass girl crush concept and sound. I don’t hate the song but it really sounds like two different songs which isn’t really the nicest.

DUN DUN – TITLE TRACK

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Not gonna lie, the beginning felt like a female version of Seventeen’s Mansae. But I didn’t hate it. The EDM laced track is addicting. By the time they reach the chorus and beat comes back I found myself repeating the hook over and over. I could see how this is the title track. Is this track revolutionary? Not at all. It doesn’t really go anywhere and is a bit one note, but it can be a good club transition song. The MV though… I’m with it. Come through Center Yiren!

PLAYER

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This felt like it picked up where Dun Dun left off. Or it had the levels that the title wanted to have. It gave me a more reggaeton vibe until you get to the pre-chorus which doesn’t fit anywhere in the song. But the chorus gives off the same sound that Salute gave. This could have been a contender for title track.

NO LIE

Rating: 4 out of 5.

To me, this is Everglow goes upbeat pop. Its the song that stands out from the rest and I think that’s why I like it the best. It’s feels like a nice islandy springesque song. But the heavy bass drops in the chorus give it a groove that I didn’t expect but glad to have. Probably my favorite track of the whole mini because it shows the possibility that they can pull off different sounds.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This isn’t the monster that was their debut or even their follow up single of Adios but DUN DUN is catchy and Everglow is trying to find their own slice of the large girl group pie. Its not one I would listen to all the time but I def think it has potential. Only place is up from here for these adorable ladies.
