Sugar Baby’s Review Corner: Love Scenery

Love Scenery

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Music
Origin: China
Episodes: 31
Air-date: Apr 8, 2021 – May 1, 2021
Starring: Lulu Xu as Liang Chen, Lin Yi as Lu Jing, Hu Bing as Ding Jia Yun, Harry Hu

Liang Chen is devoted to bringing good music works to the listeners, expressing the idea of being kind, real, and perfect. Lu Jing loves computer and big data research. He is highly recognized in the academic field through studying complicated human behavior and psychology, thus influencing the classmates around by his solid specialty literacy. They are strangers first but then brought together by big data and they become closer in the journey of pursuing dreams.

Love Scenery was a highly anticipated drama for me because I saw the stills during filming and thought that Xu Lu and Lin Yi had amazing chemistry. It took a while to get through this drama because even though it was giving fluff and cute, at its core it was a simple story that didn’t really offer much of anything. Also throughout my tenure with this drama, I soldily confirmed that I am not the biggest fan of e-sports or dramas that heavily feature gaming as added requirements to their story.

From a story perspective, I could honestly say that there wasn’t much to it. We fell into your standard tropes that were done just about average. It took our leads about eight or so episodes to meet each other irl outside of the game which gave me trauma flashbacks to I Will Never Let You Go which had us go a solid twelve episodes with our leads separated, but at least this one wasn’t in the middle of the story. After they met in person, the romance picked up tremendously and honestly, it was what we were here for. Predictable twists and turns came to be, but it was still enough to keep me entertained.

The sheer force of my entertainment came from the fact that the leads had a really great chemistry and sometimes that is just enough. Although, there wasn’t much growth amongst the characters as individuals, it wasn’t like the drama torpedoed the end with proper nonsense (looking at you So I Married The Anti-fan). I think that as characters, Liang Chen and Lu Jing were very compatible and I like the idea of unknowingly making a difference in someone’s life by a chance encounter. All the kisses and particularly the steamy ones can make a difference. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

The OST for this drama was very enjoyable and I think one of the true strengths lie within the cinematography and costumes. Overall, I don’t think I would rewatch this beyond a compilation of the cute scenes and I would recommend this as a nice fluffy and easy enough watch when you’re in the mood to pass time.

Story: 6.5/10
Acting: 8/10
Music: 8/10
Rewatch Value: 7/10
Overall: 8/10
