31 Day K-Drama Challenge ~ Day 18

Lazy Unnie

The Heirs…  The reason I waited so long to watch this show was because I couldn’t stand Kim Woo Bin’s face. But the moment I started, I realized that it should have been because I would fall in love with him. I know that Lee Min Ho was the white knight, but there was something about this broken boy that made me want to care for him even when Park Shin Hye kept throwing him to the side. Choi Young Do needed love too!

She Was Pretty… Let’s be real there is literally no one in the world who did not get major second lead syndrome from this one. Quite positive the term didn’t exist until this drama happened.

31 Day K-Drama Challenge ~ Day 17

Because This Is My First Life… They were adult #SquadGoals. They really had a dynamic that reminded me of me and my own friend groups. Just trying to make it day to day between work and relationships. It didn’t feel over the top or fake either.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo … I said this before in another post and I ‘ll say it again.. Korean dramas sincerely lack really good female friendships in dramas. Take a leaf from the Chinese dramas and give us more female friendships!

31 Day K-Drama Challenge ~ Day 16

Lazy Unnie

Moon Boon Hong from Secret Garden… There are a lot of parents or family I don’t like in dramas, but Joo Won’s mom was one of the worst! Her want to basically control Joo Won went from beginning to the very end. I’m like come on lady! Give it up!

Sugar Baby Unnie

Yun Family from Sunny Again Tomorrow.… whew chileee… daily dramas truly give us the worst of the worst when it comes to family and so far the most irritating one I’ve seen is this family. The cousin sucks, the mom sucks, the aunt sucks, the grandma sucks. All stuck up rich brats that lead Ji Eun to being terrible and if Ha Nee had grown up with them she would have been the same.

31 Day K-Drama Challenge ~ Day 15

Lazy Unnie

A Korean Odyssey… I need a second season to right all the wrongs that were done. THEY NEED TO FIX THIS.

Sugar Baby Unnie

Lawless Lawyer… I tried to think of a show that felt incomplete and needed a second season, but I was drawing a blank so I went with this instead. I mean they completed the storyline and ended everything on a good note, but we could definitely see more of Sang Pil and Jae Yi being that bomb ass Lawyer duo cracking down on corruption no? THEIR CHEMISTRY IS SO GOOD GUYS. Plus all the office shenanigans with the team?? HELLO TVN!!

31 Day K-Drama Challenge ~ Day 14

Lazy Unnie

All the back hugs… There are kisses and full on cuddles. But there is something about a hug from behind that I get weak for. Maybe it’s the part of me that wants protection or the possibility of it turning into more. I just love them.

Sugar Baby Unnie

All dramas where the Chaebol falls for the lead… Sign me up for the dramas where I be getting schmoney. I may not like this trope, but I sure wouldn’t mind a rich man falling in love with ME so I can have his money.

Lazy Unnie’s Playlist: Jus2 – FOCUS

RELEASED: March 15, 2019

When it was announced that there was going to be another (or first depends on your views of JJ Project) sub-unit to come out of GOT7, I was hype. The teasers started coming and the moment I saw Yugyeom’s head, I prayed that it would be JB announced as his partner. Described as “GOT7 main vocals + main dancer = fantasy combination”, Jus2 promised a different, darker, more sexier vibe than GOT7’s recent releases. With previous soundcloud releases from both JB aka DEF SOUL and Yugyeom, I anticipated songs leaning more into the R&B realm of things. Maybe I was satisfied or disappointed, lets focus on it.

FOCUS ON ME – Title Track

Rating: 4 out of 5.

With my bias put aside, when I heard the teaser for this song, I didn’t like it. The heavy synth beats felt overwhelming and I really didn’t find the melody all that appealing. That’s until I listened to the full track. And then again, and again, and again. JB and Yugyeom’s unique tones lend themselves to this track and really make you do as they say, focus on them. The groove is smooth and the song just makes you want to sit back with a drink and chill out. The video is artsy but fits well with the song. And the visuals suberb and choreography feels like it’s giving nods GOT7 but with their own flare.

Drunk On You

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I think Jus2 just confessed to me with this track. Or maybe it makes me want to confess to them. Either way, favorite track off the EP. The beat is seductive as well as the vocals. The bit of sing rapping is sexy and makes me want to hear what they would do on a full rap verse.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This one would maybe be my second favorite track. Both guys show off where they’re comfortable vocally with a lot of falsettos. The beat feels like you’re riding a wave of highs and little lows. What carries this is clearly the vocals with a nice assist by the beats.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A dance track with R&B grooves. Funny enough, I would put this in a neo-soul category. The beat feels very prominent and whereas in the other songs, the vocals shined through, they stayed really in one note. No real growth. I like to call this the little sister to Focus On Me.

Love Talk

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Senses part 2, just faster.

Long Black

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

A straight R&B track. This is the baby making beat that you expect off maybe a Chris Brown album, which I’m sure Yugyeom was happy about. Not as good as Drunk On You, but the groove is there and I liked it way better than the last two songs.

BONUS: Sigh (Toiki)

Rating: 4 out of 5.

When they decided to release their mini in Japanese, I was like flex. Then they went and added this track. It’s haunting and in that baby making realm. These two with their unique tones blending and making you fall in love.

This feels like both JB and Yugyeom had their styles and what they excel at all over this project. I could see both of them having success in the R&B genre if they decide to ever venture out. But this was a great stepping stone for them.

Lazy Unnie’s Playlist: TOMORROW X TOGETHER – The Dream Chapter: Star

TITLE: The Dream Chapter: Star

RELEASED: March 9, 2019

The time between Big Hit announcing that they were going to debut a new boy group and the actual debut of TXT, felt like mass hysteria. Who is TXT? What is their sound going to be like? I STAN XYZ!! It was a slew of who, what, when, where and why questions mixed with some premature stanning. Patiently, I watched as fans speculated and held off my opinions of the new flock of babies coming from the home of their Hyungs‘ BTS label. Either way, I wanted to wait to see what their sound would be and sadly, I wanted to see how that compared to BTS. SUE ME!

Let’s see what I thought of the youths and their first EP!

CROWN – Title Track

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

As far as title tracks, this feels people solid. The sound is fresh and fun. The hook is catchy as hell and it has the kind of energy that you would expect from 15 and 16 year olds. It’s a pop track that matches up to the likes of other younger boy groups like NCT Dream or Golden Child. The vocals are sweet and the raps, not BTS Rapline, but decent. The video is eye catching and reminds me of being in a snapchat filter. Out of the gate, their grabbing their target audience by the horns. Not a monster hit like others are claiming, but I can see it growing.

Blue Orangeade

Rating: 4 out of 5.

MY. FAVORITE. TRACK! From the opening beats, it grabbed me. Still a pop track but it has a hint of R&B Swing that comes out perfectly. This track has a groove that feels more sophisticated than CROWN. The hook isn’t as catchy but for some reason, this gets me in my feels. When that beat slows down at the bridge? BRING IT!

Our Summer

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I call this EDM-Lite. It’s a slower track but the build and drops are something you would find maybe on BTS’s latest album. It isn’t terrible, but it isn’t that memorable on first listen. But if it came on my shuffle, I wouldn’t skip. Very coachella.

Cat & Dog

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Hold on while I finish laughing…………………………………………. Okay. The laughing comes from 1. The title. 2. This lyric “I just wanna your dog” followed by dog barks. I can’t. I just can’t. Anyway. the song itself is alright. It’s like their attempt at a club banger, which includes heavy hip-hop trap beats and Woodie Gochild bird calls.

Nap of a star

Rating: 3 out of 5.

First off, the title is confusing as hell. Other than that, it’s a sweet little ballad. The vocals are soft and breathy and instrumentals are something you’d hear from maybe Shawn Mendes. The song doesn’t really go anywhere spectacular but it’s a nice little wrap up of the album.

For a debut it wasn’t terrible. Some of the songs were memorable. Would I call it a home run out of the box like some? Not at all. But I can see the potential in them. If the goal was to set them apart from the way that BTS debuted, then mission accomplished. It was youthful without being annoyingly sugary.

31 Day K-Drama Challenge ~ Day 11

Lazy Unnie

Jung Joon Hyung from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo … d I went back and forth between lines and finally settled on this one. I could have picked a bunch from this drama alone, but the most memorable was chubs. I wanted to punch and laugh every time he said it.

Sugar Baby Unnie

Joo Joong Won from Master’s Sun … It was so hard to pick anything because my mind is in China dramaland and also I guess I don’t pay attention to what men say but also its been months since I’ve watched a kdrama I truly enjoy. Sighs. Anyways thinking of this still makes me laugh every time.
